Antony Byrne has been in the upholstery business since 1958, some 47 years ago, when he served as an apprentice in the UK and learnt the art of frame making and upholstering hand-sprung setees in the traditional and time honoured methods. Once he had mastered these skills, he progressed to the designing of sofas. Anthony soon excelled in the industry and at a young age, he was recruited to work in South Africa for the Afcol Furniture Group in Durban. After a spell in the large manufacturer environment, Anthony decided he would be happier in a small specialist company, and together with a partner, bought Barnard & Holliday, an upholstery company in Durban. Over the following 8 years through hard work, and applying their collective skills, they established the business with a reputation for quality products, and appealing designs. By this time, Anthony had travelled around in South Africa, and discovered Cape Town. He knew that this is where he wanted to settle, sold his interest in B & H, boldly moved to Cape Town, and established Anthony Byrne Designs some 26 years ago.

We have been commissioned to manufacture furniture for some of the finest homes in Cape Town,
South Africa, however we will gladly quote and arrange transport / shipment should you live further away.
